Superintendent Search

  The Knox County School Board recently began its search for a new superintendent. The next superintendent will have a tremendous impact on the future of our community.

The next superintendent obviously needs to have the requisite professional credentials and educational experience, but he/she also needs something else. The superintendent must be able to articulate his/her vision to ensure that all Knox County Schools
students will leave high school with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in college or the workplace. And now more than ever, with the commitment to higher standards by the Knox County and State Boards of Education, our next superintendent must be able to lead his/her staff and the community to reach those high goals.  To view the draft of the case statement that the Board developed for the superintendent search click here; http://web.knoxnews.com/pdf/0830super.pdf

Excellence through Literacy is the Key.

One of the area's of greatest focus in Knox County Schools today is one reading.  We all know that for the first three years in school children learn to read but after that they need to be able to read to learn.   See attached article by Dr. Alvez, Director of Middle Schools;

U.S. News releases its top 100 High Schools

This report is interesting because it again demonstrates that the best High Schools in the United States are not traditional high schools or what has become common in Knox County--Mega High Schools.  The vast majority utilize an academy or small learning community approach.  To view the top 100 go to;  http://www.usnews.com/sections/education/high-schools
