three children. TJ, 19, a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, Doug, 17, a junior at West High School,
and Rebeka, 13, a seventh-grader at Farragut Middle School. The Carsons attend Concord United Methodist
Church. Karen has been active with CBFO as a volleyball coach.
Nurse.
Karen Carson is a registered nurse working in pediatric health care. Currently
completing her 17th year with East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Karen works in the Emergency and Radiology
Departments. Karen’s pediatric care experience keeps her aware of the health and education needs
of children and their families.
Volunteer. Karen
Carson began volunteering in PTA when her son entered school. Karen’s service with PTA has been at
the school level, County level, and on the Board of the Tennessee PTA. Karen continues to volunteer by
serving on the Board of Directors of the Teacher Supply Depot, The Great Schools Partnership and as the East Region Director
on the Tennessee School Boards Association’s Federal Relations Network.
After considerable discussion, thought,
and prayer, Karen Carson has decided to seek re-election for a second term as the 5th district representative to
the Knox County Board of Education. The Knox County School Board oversees a system of 54,000 students,
8, 000 employees, 88 schools, and an annual budget of 357 million dollars. From serving on the Board, and
being elected as Chariman of the Board for the past two years, Karen is even more convinced that the policies and directions
set by the school board greatly influence not only the quality of education delivered to our children but the quality of life
for our community.
Karen Carson asks you to please support her re-election to office so she can continue
working to advocate for our children, our schools, and our community.
